EdCampNYC is an unconference for educators in the NYC metro area and beyond. After attending the inaugural edcamp, EdcampPhilly in May 2010, I was immediately inspired to launch one in NYC. I’m proud that our event was one of the first spin-offs and part of an amazing movement of teacher-driven professional development and learning.
An unconference is a facilitated, participant-driven conference centered on a theme or purpose. The term “unconference” has been applied, or self-applied, to a wide range of gatherings that try to avoid one or more aspects of a conventional conference, such as high fees and sponsored presentations. EdCampMumbai was an unconference for educators which took place in Mumbai, India in October 2013. It was truly wonderful to create, organize, and launch India’s first edcamp! I designed the logo and set-up the Twitter, Gmail account, website, and wiki page on the official Edcamp wiki.
